About Us

SHELBYVILLE FIRST BAPTIST EXISTS...

To honor and glorify God by obeying Jesus' command to make disciples of all people groups. We accomplish this through our Mission and Vision.

OUR MISSION

We base our mission statement on the following two important New Testament passages:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

OUR VISION

Our vision is to see God do a mighty work in which His grace and power are evidenced by seeing people come to Him in faith to experience lives of forgiveness, fullness, and joy. We strive to be a church that honors God by valuing people over programs, policies, or facilities; a church that honors God by cultivating a Christ-like, loving atmosphere in the church body; a church that honors God by equipping and encouraging every person to use their abilities and spiritual gifts; a church that honors God with relationships that are ruled by honesty, sincerity, character, and integrity; a church that honors God by sharing Christ locally and globally; a church that honors God by promoting the qualities of excellence and relevance in all they do.

We strive to be a church that is not bound by tradition, denominationalism, or personal preference; a church which reflects a relaxed, casual, and friendly atmosphere; a church which displays the true spirit of a servant, seeking the best for one another; a church that is under the leadership of the pastor, staff, and servant leaders, who together seek the mind of Christ and equip the body to minister; a church that realizes its greatest potential lies in its people who are built up, encouraged, recognized, and equipped.

OUR AFFILIATIONS

We have chosen to associate and cooperate with three important groups of churches in an effort to glorify God and reach people with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

  1. The Shelby Baptist Association is composed of 28 churches and 2 Hispanic ministries that fellowship and work together to reach the people of Shelby County and the surrounding region.
  2. The Kentucky Baptist Convention is composed of approximately 2,400 churches and many missions that fellowship and work together to reach the state of Kentucky.
  3. The Southern Baptist Convention is composed of approximately 45,000 churches and about 16 million members. It is the largest and one of the fastest growing associations of Christian churches in America. SBC churches include every race, nationality, and ethic group. Each Sunday, services are held in over 110 language groups. The SBC baptizes over 1,000 new Christians a day in the United States and begins nearly 5 new churches a day.

What are the advantages of affiliating with the Southern Baptist Convention

It allows us to identify ourselves with other Christians around the world who are known for their commitment to the Bible. Unlike other groups, the SBC has no man-made creed… the Bible is our sole authority.
It allows our church to participate in the largest missionary organization in the world. Through the SBC’s “Cooperative Program,” we help support over 9,000 career missionaries in 125 countries.
It allows us to be a part of a tremendous mobilization of church members around the country. About 100,000 Southern Baptist each year participate in short-term mission and disaster relief projects, at home and abroad.
It allows us to be a part of training, through our six seminaries, about 12,000 pastors and others each year who are called to vocational ministry.
